a small miracle

DIRECTORíS STATEMENT

In a high-density city like Hong Kong, the high-rise buildings block our view of the world. We only see things that are man-made. What we see most is each other ñ people. We are our own content.

How does that make us happy? Weíre not truly happy until weíve lost everything and then recall how lucky we were. It takes a car-accident, a loss in the family, an earthquake to actually see who we are and the small miracles that surround us.

A Small Miracle is the story of an ordinary man who finds out what heís capable of when put into extraordinary circumstances, and comes to like himself for it. He knows his own true value when he asserts himself. A small miracle happens. He feels his own existence.

I had very limited resources in making this film. Everything was done on a small scale: small camera, small crew (two people most of the time), small budget, but I was more optimistic than ever. The subtle theme of the story rubbed off on me. Though the ideas (events) may seem small but they are miracles nonetheless.
